Graphic designer Richard Friend grew up at Steward Manor—
a diverse, middle class apartment complex located almost
exactly between Washington, DC and Baltimore. He has fond
memories of the people and places he knew there, and only
recently discovered—nearly 30 years later—that others do, too.
Steward Manor Days is part oral history, part visual art,
and completely a labor of love. What began in 1998 as
a book tribute to a handful of childhood friends grew into
a social experiment reconnecting hundreds of former
residents, all eager to reflect on their Steward Manor Days.
This project is a visual journey through the past and present
of a special neighborhood that continues to mean a lot
to many equally special people.
The goal of this project is to document and preserve the history
of Steward Manor Apartments. If you have photos, rental literature,
old keys, or just recollections, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
